It should be emphasised here that it is very rare for a candidate who has passed through Gateway to receive a result of ‘major shortfall’, so please do not worry unduly about this process at the outset of your training – place your trust in your centre’s highly experienced lead assessor.
Success at validation depends upon a ‘yes’ answer to all these points. Those joining the long pathway are unlikely to enter with all these attributes fully developed, but they must be able to extend to this point over the time during which they undertake EYPS training. Again, as a tutor who has been involved in supporting the long pathway over the past two years, I would advise aspiring long pathway candidates who do not have substantial work-based practitioner experience in Early Years setting(s) to make sure they can build this up to a sufficient level, and secure the opportunity to gain some leadership experience over the period of the training programme.
